Mixtape Colour Palette

Explore the art and science behind how each colour is created.

🎨 Visual

“How it looks.” The colour comes directly from the album artwork, extracted using image analysis to gain the most used or prominent colour.

🎚️ Genre

“How it moves.” Built exclusively from GetSongBPM data — tempo, acousticness, and danceability, blended with a genre bias.

💓 Sonic

“How it feels.” Derived from SoundNet date points including happiness, energy, danceability and acousticness, with natural variation to create a more human swatch.

⚡ Synth

“How it sounds in theory.” Rooted in musical theory, this colour is mapped using a synesthetic colour wheel to the track's key, inspired by sound-to-colour associations.

✨ Why Four Colours?

Beyond giving you choice to create a palette unique to you and your music taste, we know that music and art isn't one dimensional and there's emotion within the artform. From one track to the next, your choice could be inspired by the rhythm, a knowledge of the cover art, sometimes the tonality and song characteristics — and sometimes all four.
